E q u i p m e n t This set of burs was assembled in collaboration with: Dr. Spang
Description How to use Definition Planex stones are manufactured in the standard ISO sizes of 014, 016 and 018 and are coated with a layer of normal ( 80 um ) or fine ( 40 um ) diamond particles. The standard set is supplemented by 3 margin finishing burs ( Order No. D18 ) whose grain sizes range from normal, to fine and ultrafine ( 15 um ). The table on p. 2 gives an overview of all the details. Function The burs, when held vertically on the soulder, only work laterally. The smooth surface on the top surface limits vertical progression. This design allows the deepening of shoulders at a predetermined level with minimal vertical alterations. When heid obliquely, the bur will be active axialiy, thus allowing the apical relocation of a shoulder. The technique produces smooth and internally rounded shoulders thereby improving the statics of the abutments. Compared to sharp internal angles, internally rounded shoulders will also facilitate laboratory procedures. Since Planex burs arg of the same shapes and dimensions in all grain sizes, the geometry of the preparabon is left intact during refinement of the abutment surfaces. Indication shoulders and boxes of any shape for the placement of fillings or gold-, ceramic- or composite inlays. They are also suited for the preparation of telescopes, ceramic- and veneer crowns. Further, telescopes, ceramic- and veneer crowns. Further, a shoulderless abutment. Technique recommendations For all preparation designs :
For crowns with circular shoulder we recommend to mark the location of the shoulder with a fine pencil. The burs are guided vertical to this line and by lateral milling motions, a shoulder is established. Simultaneously, the operator defines the axial walls of the abutment. lf the shoulder is to be relocated more apically, the bur is angled slightly and guided over the shoutder again. So as to produce crisp margins, the shoulder edges are smooth-ened and polished with m„rgin finishing burs. For crowns with partial shoulder preparations, start by removing undercuts and by giving adequate taper to the abutment preparation. The shoulder is prepared scondarily, usually in visually accessible locations only. For complex fillings and inlays, Planex burs will allow the placement and finishing of boxes, shoulders and margins. Edges can be bevelled with the F series of burs. Chamfers and smoothened gingival marginal areas are developed with margin finishing burs.
