E q u i p m e n t This set of burs was assembled in collaboration with: Prof. J.F. Roulet and Dr. S. Herder
The means to ideal Inlay cavity preparations Ceramic inlay preparations should be simple, distinct and have rounded interior edges. Preparation with the 80 um grit diamonds is efficient and the cavity form is correct for ceramic inlays. The finishing diamonds (20um), which have the same shape, are used to carefully smoothen the enamel margins. Due to the slight tapering (6° angle), the desired cavity form can be properly prepared while the dentist holds the instruments straight. The edges are automatically rounded because of the burs shape. By choosing the correct bur (short and long; ISO 12 and ISO 18 diameter) all situations on posterior teeth can be mastered.
Specifically for Ceramic Inlays
Due to the slight tapering and the small diameter, minimal tooth substance is removed and undercuts are avoided. The Cerinlay Set is ideal for premolars and molars.
All ceramic inlay preparation demands can be easily met.
With "know how" to success During preparation in the premolar and molar areas, minimum tooth substance is removed due to the burs slight tapering (6°), small diameter (ISO 12 and 18) and 2 different lengths (6 mm and 8 mm).
The angle formed by the exterior and interior surface of the inlay should be as close to 90°; as possible. However, it should not be less than 60°;. The minimum thickness for ceramic inlays is 1.5 mm. It is WRONG to measure the depth of the preparation at the margin. Measuring must be done in the middle of the preparation keeping the space for the opposing tooth in mind.
Rounded edges guarantee a margin form suitable for ceramics. The 80 ?m grit preparation diamond has been shown to be efficient and the 20 ?m grit of the finishing diamond has proven to carefully smoothen the margins while removing only a minimum amount of enamel.
