E q u i p m e n t The Prep Set is available in an A- and a B-type version: The A-Set contains an additional "front only" cutting instrument (A9) because the crown prep instruments A7 and A8 are of the "safe-end" type, i.e. with non-cutting flat fronts. The B-Set: the diamond grain of the black, wear-indicating prep instruments is considerably coarser (150 µm) than that of regular prep diamonds (90 µm). These instruments are marked with a black ring on the shaft. The Prep Set was developed in collaboration with the Department of Operative Dentistry and the Department of Crown and Bridge of the Dental School of the University of Bern, Switzerland. The high quality instrument set for ergonomic tooth preparations providing:
1. Gross preparation (A1)
2. Extension (A2) of the boxes (without damaging the enamel of neighbouring teeth) with the thin, flame-shaped diamond marked by a yellow ring on the shaft to indicate 40 µm diamond grain size.
3. Finishing (A3) of the internal cavity walls with the long cone (yellow ring: 40 µm grain size) with a slightly bevelled distal edge. Use relatively low speed for steps 3, 4 and 5. (Photo: the cavity was filled with glass ionomer cement after gross preparation and caries removal).
4. Contouring and bevelling (A4) of the cavity margin with the tip of the torpedo-shaped 40 µm (yellow ring) instrument A4. The FG-design warrants perfectly centered running of the instruments. This "Intensiv" diamond prep set is designed for effective yet substance preserving tooth preparations for cast fillings and for crowns. For routine cavity preparations, no further cutting instruments should be needed. The instruments A1 - A6 are used to cut preparations for cast fillings, A5 -A12 for complete crown preps.
5. Finishing (A5) of the entire cavity margin with the identically torpedo-shaped diamond instrument A5 with only 15 µm grain size (red ring on the shaft).
6. Cusp reduction (A6) for onlays, followed by the identically shaped finishing point A12. Note: For small teeth as well as for teeth requiring very limited preparation, some of these instruments may appear rather oversized. Corresponding instruments from the Intensiv Composhape Set are therefore more convenient.
Preparation of vital teeth and core build ups (A5 to A12)
1.1. Guiding grooves are cut with instruments A7 or A8 on buccal, oral and occlusa! surfaces helping to determine and maintain the correct amount of tooth substance to be removed.
1.2. Shoulder preparation in a right angle to the long axis of the tooth, using instruments A7 or A8, both with a flat, non-cutting front, reducing the risk of unintentional slide-offs.
1.3. Reduction of the occlusal surface or incisal edge to the preestablished level of the guiding grooves with instruments A6, A7 or A8.
2. Reduction of the lingual (or occlusal) surfaces with the A6 instrument (bud-shaped, 90µm grain size with wear indication).
3. Lowering the shoulder level with the exclusively front cutting instrument A9
4.1. Lateral contouring and finishing of the preparation, including the shoulder, with a 40 µm, smooth corner A10 or A3, smoothing any remaining surface grooves and sharp angles due to the fine-grain diamond coating.
4.2. Occlusal finishing with the bud-shaped 40 µm A12 instrument.
5. Bevelling of the shoulder with the "nose" of the torpedo-shaped A11 (yellow ring: 40 µm grain size) held parallel to the long axis of the tooth. For the detail information, please, contact our representative: E-mail: sc@ukrdental.com
