It started with the first tinkerings of the dentist Walter Hubschmid who had established a dental practice with his wife in the eastern part of Switzerland in 1932 and culminated when he and his son Rino realized that the common standard instruments could neither satisfy the dentist nor the manufacturer. Despite the individuality of the respective working techniques it seemed necessary to search for and find a common denominator. Carabietta on lake Lugano was only a first stage, by and by the factory grew too small, making a move to Lugano city in 1965 indispensable. After having finished his studies in the USA, son Rino had joined the company in 1958, turning its name into Walter Hubschmid & Son until it was later on renamed Intensiv SA Swiss Dental Products. Even before this the Hubschmid instruments had carried the "Intensiv" label.

All Intensiv sets that were manufactured intend to provide a system of facilitating the work for students and dentists, enabling them to apply a rational preparation technique with few shapes, configurations and sizes. The sets were developed at the dental schools of Basel, Bern, Geneva and - last but not least - Zurich Universities and clearly show that they are supporting an evolution which can no longer be stopped worldwide. Beyond the actual range of preparation instruments, the Intensiv SA has developed diamond instruments for the finishing of tooth and filling surfaces in close co-operation with the Dental Institute of Zurich University.

The systematic expansion of exports to now 45 countries in Europe, North and Latin America as well as the Middle and Far East is based on the reputation of the Intensiv products on one hand and the dedication of the entrepreneurs and their staff on the other.
